Tailgating Essentials to Have on Gameday: 

Tailgating is a time-honored tradition that allows sports fans to show their support for their teams. It combines the love of friends, sport, and delicious food into a truly unforgettable experience. Having the right setup and gear is crucial for the perfect pre-game festivities. So, what do you need?  

Portable Grill 

At the heart of all tailgates, you’ll find a grill. It doesn’t matter what kind of grill you choose whether it’s charcoal, gas, or electric, as long as it’s easy to set up and transport. When packing your grill, don’t forget to also pack a lighter or matches, and the respective utensils for your food. Disposable utensils are recommended for a quick and easy clean up. 

Coolers, Food, and Drinks 

You should consider investing in a quality cooler for your drinks and snacks. Maybe even two coolers, one for your drinks and one for perishable food. Don’t forget to also bring some ice packs to help maintain that cooler temperature. 

Typical food for a tailgate includes hamburgers, hot dogs, and potato salad. You may also want to bring along chips, dips, and various other snacks. As far as drinks go, consider bringing a variety of options for everyone there.  

Folding Table and Chairs 

Portable, foldable tables and chairs are essential to the tailgating experience. You should opt for ones that are lightweight and easy to carry, but also sturdy enough to support your food and drinks. 

Canopy or Tent 

Weather tends to be unpredictable, so you’ll want to be prepared. Bringing a tent or canopy is a great way to ensure your party continues rain or shine. Look for something that provides ample coverage and is easy to assemble. 

Entertainment 

Keep the good times going with some entertainment before the game. Think about a portable speaker for some music. Card games, a football, or cornhole are a great way to make sure everyone stays active and entertained. 

Comfort Items 

If the weather is nice and sunny, you may want to pack some sunscreen, sunglasses, and/or a hat. Should it be cold or rainy, consider extra layers like sweatshirts or blankets. Where allowed, you may even be able to bring a portable space heater. Also, be sure to bring a first aid kit. You never know if/when you might need it. 

A Spacious Vehicle 

With so many things to bring, you’ll need to make sure you have enough space. A Ford Escape, Expedition, Explorer, and even an F-150 can all provide ample space for you and your tailgating essentials.
